Coach Gabriel Bellott-McGrath

Hey I’m Gabriel! I’m coming to Waterloo from The University of the South in Sewanee, TN where I was the Assistant Coach. During my year there, Sewanee swimmers set 7 school records, and recorded over 80% lifetime bests.

I’ve served as a coach under 2016 Rio Team USA Olympic Coach Dave Kelsheimer on Team Santa Monica as an age group competitive coach and lead swim lessons instructor. I also swam under Coach Kelsheimer as a training partner to Team USA Olympic finalist and World Champion Jordan Wilimovsky. I bring further developmental experience in competitive swimming from summers at Virginia Swim Camps under legendary collegiate coaches Mark Bernardino and Don Easterling.

I graduated from Kenyon College in Gambier, OH, where I was a 4-year varsity swimmer, NCAA Championship medalist (bronze 800 freestyle relay) and Conference Champion (gold 800 freestyle relay) as well as an individual qualifier and competitor at NCAAs in the 200 IM and 200 freestyle. I swam for Atlanta-area USA Swimming club, Stingrays Swimming, under Coach Ian Goss, where I rose to a top-100 ranking in the 100m breaststroke (swimmers of any age) and competed at USA Junior Nationals. In high school, I competed under Coaches Bridger Bell and Pete Higgins at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta, where I set the school record in the 200 freestyle.

I received my B.A. in Biology from Kenyon College in 2018. I’ve been playing the violin since age 4, love cars, and am an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers. Look forward to seeing you on deck!
