#H2OLOOFastFoodFriday – Episode 6 – Coach Marina – Hydration!

Hi this is Coach Marina down here in Austin, Texas at Waterloo Swimming and I am here to talk to you today about hydration.

Staying hydrated in everyday life is super important. Being an athlete, it is even more important. In order to stay on top of your game and prevent cramping you have to stay hydrated. In swimming, we don’t realize that we areg etting dehydrated because we are in the water and our sweat mixes with the water, therefore we don’t realize it.

One way to stay hydrated is to always carry a water bottle.

When you’re at school it is important to keep your water bottle with you at all times. If you’re near the water fountain, just fill it up whenever possible.

One good way is when you spot a water bottle or you look at something that reminds you of water, just take a sip of your water bottle.

One easy way to stay hydrated during swim practice is anytime you are on the wall and you change equipment just take a sip of your water.

Another easy way to stay hydrated during practice is to use a squirt bottle rather than a twist off bottle.

They are easier to use when you are on the wall between intervals.

After practice it is important to be hydrated as well.

An easy way is after practice fill your water bottle up so you’re hydrated on your car ride home. If you get home after practice and you realize you haven’t had to go to the bathroom at all today. That’s a good indicator that you are dehydrated.

If you have to run to the bathroom every five minutes, that means you’re hydrated and that’s a good sign.

This is Coach Marina from Waterloo Swimming in Austin, Texas and I hope these were helpful hints to stay hydrated during the summer.
